Lombok may be famous for its beaches and small islands (Gili), but if you love nature, do not miss Benang Stokel Waterfall, which is located only 30 kilometers from Mataram, the capital city. This waterfall is still relatively untouched, so the water is clear and cold, and the surrounding is very cool and refreshing.
Benang Stokel,- meaning Literally, a Ball of thread, located in Aik Berik Village, Batukliang Utara Sub-district, 22 km north of Praya. Fresh and cool water falls from 20 meter high trough the steep rock face, covered by the variety of vegetations; the moss, forming lush green wall till the raft where lies small valley for bathing. The falling water seems to ply down joyfully, sliding one after another, cussing down and making a harmonious sound.
The waterfall and starting point for this track can be reached in about 30 minutes by jeep. Trekking through dense forest, the ascent up to the crater rim takes around 6 hours. From here, the descent to the crater lake is about 3 hours. This track offers lots of variety, with the famed Tiara Dewi Anjani waterfall as one of its highlights, and with some luck one might encounter a herd of deer.
This track is especially favored by those looking for a completely different angle of approach to Rinjani. For centuries this route has been used by hunters and fishermen looking for their prey in the dense forest and crater lake.
This track offers no opportunities for a climb up to the summit of Rinjani, except if you plan to bring along a rubber boat to paddle across the Crater Lake to the Sembalun side of the lake. Should one wish to do so our team can accommodate one.
The best time to hop over is in the month of May just when the rainy season ends and the dry begins. While hot and humid all year round, temperatures can range from 21°C to 32°C.
